Women’s Hormone Balancing Mineral Deodorant

Women’s Hormone Balancing Mineral Deodorant

SO…

…I’m sorta obsessed with making my own deodorant — may I present you the evidence ::

  • Make Your Own Deodorant Cream
  • Homemade Probiotic Deodorant
  • Super Strength Herbal Deodorant Spray
  • Herbal Deodorant Recipe
  • How to Make An All Natural Deodorant for Men

AND…

…I’m super passionate about women’s health — read more here ::

  • Balance Hormones Naturally :: A Women’s Herbal Massage Oil
  • A Women’s Hormone Balancing Herbal Remedy

THEN…

…the thought entered my mind, why not combine the two!?!

Well I did! And to say it’s the most amazing deodorant for women EVER…is a pretty accurate description.

What’s In It?

So…while building a foundation with skin-loving ingredients known for their anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, and anti-fungal properties (sesame oil)…and, working to incorporate minerals that do the same (zinc oxide + calcium carbonate)…then, merging them all with essential oils proven to provide hormonal balance for women…I knew I was on to something incredible.

Not to mention, what a wonderful place to apply this creation for maximum absorption + benefit…right over the lymph nodes under our arms and near our breasts!

Just look at the properties imparted for our health by the essential oils alone ::

  • Clary Sage Essential Oil — known as a nerve tonic with its ability to calm and balance the spirit — has a sedating effect. Additionally, since the Middle Ages, it has been used to treat female complaints such as: abdominal cramps, dysmenorrhea, emotional stress, endometriosis, hormonal imbalance, hot flashes, infertility, PMS, postpartum depression, irregular cycles, and pre-menopause.
  • Basil Essential Oil — is anticatarrhal, antidepressant, energizing, and restorative. Commonly used in the treatment of amenorrhea, chronic fatigue, abdominal cramps, infertility, lactation (increase milk production), mental fatigue, migraines, and ovarian cyst
  • Bergamot Essential Oil — among its many benefits, for women specifically, this oil is used primarily for depression, anxiety, emotional stress, physical energy, physical stress, and PMS
  • Ylang Ylang Essential Oil — has influence over sexual energy and enhances relationships. It may also help to stimulate the adrenal glands.
  • Cypress Essential Oil — common primary uses include dysmenorrhea, endometriosis, menopause, menorrhagia, fatigue, and environmental stress.
  • Geranium Essential Oil — historically women found this oil useful for a variety of inflammations, heavy menstrual flow, hormonal imbalances, depression, and possibly even cancer (folklore).

All I’m trying to say is…
…I’m totally diggin’ this deodorant.
To date, it’s my personal fave!
Ready for the recipe!

Women’s Hormone Balancing Deodorant

Base Ingredients
*It is super important here to choose as many organic ingredients as possible. I have linked to the products I use personally for this recipe.

  • 0.5 ounce kokum butter
  • 0.5 ounce sesame seed oil
  • 0.5 ounce shea butter
  • 0.5 ounce beeswax
  • 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil, from non-GMO sources

Mineral Ingredients
*Not all of the following ingredients are minerals…but you get the idea (smile).

  • 2 1/2 tablespoons arrowroot powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon calcium carbonate
  • 1 teaspoon zinc oxide, non-nano, uncoated

Essential Oils

  • 10 drops clary sage essential oil
  • 5 drops basil essential oil
  • 5 drops ylang ylang essential oil
  • 5 drops cypress essential oil
  • 3 drops bergamot essential oil
  • 2 drops geranium essential oil

Method*A kitchen scale is required to appropriately follow this recipe. This is the one I keep in my kitchen and LOVE.

  1. In a small pot or sauce pan, melt kokum butter, sesame seed oil, shea butter, and beeswax over low heat.
  2. Remove pot from heat, then add all of the mineral ingredients.
  3. Whisk with a small wire whisk until all powders are dissolved and well combined.
  4. Add vitamin E oil and essential oils at this time.
  5. Pour mixture into clean, used deodorant container OR you can purchase and use these new deodorant containers. This deodorant is shelf-stable and may be stored on counter for up to a year.

Use as you would conventional deodorant.

This looks amazing! And I am so glad you’re selling it – my heart wants to make it from scratch but my head knows I probably won’t any time in the near future. Just put my order in on Etsy!

It sounds intriguing but I cannot stand geranium or ylang ylang. I have multiple chemical sensitivities and it goes beyond chemicals… certain scents will make me sick. For example, vanilla beans… when I make my own homemade vanilla extract, I cannot cut the beans myself, my husband has to do it or I get super sick!!

And I know geranium has amazing benefits for hormonal women 🙁

This sounds amazing! Cant wait to try it! Will you post the recipes to the scented perfume sticks you used to sell? Those were so wonderful!!!

After using another of your deodorant recipes (loved how well it worked) I seem to have developed a sensitivity to beeswax (confirmed by a beeswax-based lip balm – after discontinuing both areas cleared up). Is there a way to make a non-beeswax version? And thank you for all the information you provide. It’s been eye opening and transformative!

Hi Lucy, I make my deodorant with only coconut oil, “minerals” and essential oils, and have this in a small glass jar, which I then apply with fingertips. The beeswax certainly helps keep the structure and firmer texture of the deodorant if you plan on applying by “wiping” on with a typical deodorant container. If you use a glass jar pretty much anything goes!

You could use 100% cocoa butter. This is very hard at room temperature, melts nicely, combines nicely, and smells incredible. It is also super good for your skin.

What is the purpose/function of the calcium carbonate in this deodorant? Thanks! 🙂

Hi Sarah. Calcium carbonate works hard to fight odor by neutralizing it.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe! I can’t wait to try the EO combo. Do you mind sharing where you got the paperboard tube? I’ve been looking to replace plastic in everything I make and am currently putting my deodorant in a jar, but would love to start swiping instead of slathering again.

Any ideas on what could replace the kokum butter? Maybe doubling the shea? I have everything else! Thanks!

Eeeek! I can’t WAIT to try this. I do not have Sesame oil! Any ideas on what might be another good sub? I’ve got apricot kernel, jojoba, grapeseed, evening primrose, neem, sweet almond, and of course the almighty coconut. LOL. Help! 🙂

Finally a natural deodorant that doesn’t call for coconut! I know coconut in proper portions is a good thing, but not for those of us who are allergic to it. So ready to make this (as soon as I get all the ingredients) I hope it is effective in the humid Alabama heat.

Oooo. A new deodorant recipe! I’m sensitive to baking soda, it made huge lumps under my arms the last homemade deodorant I made. And suggestions for a substitute?

    • Andrea

      January 4, 2015 at 1:51 PM

Hi Melanie! I’d just replace the baking soda with additional arrowroot powder.

Hi Andrea, would you be willing to share the EO recipe (which eo’s and how many drops) you had for the cream deodorant you use to sell. I loved the Earthy scent and got so many compliments on it. PLEASE!!

I am very interested in making the switch to natural deods– I am entering my 40s and know of some hormonal imbalances… I am on birthcontrol which regulates some of the imbalance– would there be any adverse affects from this product that I need to consider?

I am going to try this recipe next time I make deodorant – I just recently got into making my own in the last couple of months and really like it – my recent one has some redmond clay in it – just a little along with some shea butter and oils and the arrowroot and baking soda – I then add geranium and lavender EO and like how it is working for me – your blend sounds even better for the hormones – I love Clary Sage!

Would this be safe for young girls? Maybe even those just at a puberty? I’d like to start them on something homemade.

Could I make this with different EO’s for men? Any suggestions?

Can I use coconut oil instead of sesame oil?

So glad to find this! Would this recipe still work without the zinc oxide? How many days until people have seen results?

Is the calcium carbonate totally necessary? I have all the ingredients but that and would like to make it today.

Can the probiotic powder (from other deodorant recipe) be added to this without any detriment?

Hi! This deodorant looks amazing! I can’t find you on Etsy. Are you still selling on there or is there another way I might order?
    Thanks!
