Green Juice for Women -- a juicing recipe designed to naturally balance hormones, clear skin, reduce inflammation, aid in weight loss, and so much more...

On this past Winter Solstice, I began a practice that will stay with me far into the foreseeable future…

…and I want to share it with you!

Cycle of the Moon // Cleanse

Juicing in rhythm with the moon!!!

In her own words, Angela de la Agua — the inspiration behind Cycle of the Moon // Cleanse — gives insight into the benefits of aligning a juice cleanse with the cycles of the moon…

“The Moon is a powerful force upon our planet. It affects the ocean’s tides, sap and juice levels in trees and plants, our behaviors and our bodies. The gravitational pull on the water in our bodies connects us to the Moon and its magic.

Made up of over 60% water, our bodies can be dramatically affected by this beneficial pull.

By aligning a cleanse with the most potent phases of the Moon, we are able to take advantage of its force to help deepen the cleansing process and effects. Starting on either a New Moon or Full Moon will give any cleanse a powerful helping hand.

NEW MOON // A time of new beginnings and manifesting positive changes, and for finding time for yourself and seclusion.

WAXING // A time of increasing energy and gaining strength. Healing is promoted.

FULL MOON // The most powerful phase. Building energy and vitality. A time of fulfillment and gratitude.

WANING // A time of decreasing, letting go. A time for new eating habits and breaking old routines. Completion.”

As women, balance comes through connecting our lives with the ebbs and flows of nature.

And who doesn’t want balance…a viable reproductive system, balanced hormones, better sleep, radiant skin, reduced stress + anxiety, alleviation of PMS symptoms, and healthy weight loss?!?

I know I do!

Eating nutrient dense foods — like those rich in B vitamins, magnesium, organic minerals, and chlorophyll — in combination with nourishing herbs + a re-connection with the Earth will assist any one of us on this journey.

The bottom line is, if we as women do not consume the foods + plants that contain the nutrients we need and return to nature…

…our bodies cannot + will not produce hormones properly or maintain hormonal balance simply because it does not have what it needs to do so.

A super practical step toward this type of balance could include reading more about the Cycle of the Moon // Cleanse + joining me this full moon — January 4, 2015 — for a 3-day juice cleanse 🙂

So…I’ve been working through a few juicing recipes for the coming three days, and this one is AWESOME! Not only does it taste great but it’s packed full of incredible goodness for women!

Green Juice for Women Recipe

Ingredients
*Use locally grown or organic produce when available.

  • 2 green apples, cored and seeded
  • 2 oranges, peeled
  • 1 lemon, peeled
  • 12 kale leaves (I like to use a blend of kale, swiss card, and spinach)
  • 8 stalks celery
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 bunch parsley
  • 1 inch piece ginger root
  • 2 inch piece turmeric root
  • 2 teaspoons red maca root powder, optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon spirulina powder, optional

Method

  1. Using your juicer (this is the BEST juicer I’ve ever owned) juice all of the fruits and veggies.
  2. Pour into a large half gallon glass mason jar. Note: This recipe produces enough juice for one day’s worth of nourishment.
  3. If using the maca and spirulina powders, add to juice in jar and shake to combine well.
  4. Store in refrigerator. Consume within 24 hours.

Here’s to starting the New Year balanced!

What would you recommend if I don’t own a juicer? Would a smoothie be okay too?

A smoothie is an excellent alternative:)

I think a smoothie is BETTER, since you eat all the nutritious pulp, too.

Yes, but for a cleanse, the pulp would not do.

Smoothies will still contain all the fiber from the plant which slows down absorption of the nutrients from the juice. Also may cause bloating and cramping. If you only have a smooth is machine you can use a mesh strainer to eliminate the pulp from the juice.

What a great idea to use the moon cycle as timing for a juice cleanse! Thank you so much for sharing!!

If this is considered a cleanse, it is all you consume for those 3 days or do you just start your day with it and eat normally throughout the day? Thanks

Great question Geneva. This is intended as a 100% juice cleanse (in addition to consumption of water and herbal teas). Above all, it’s super important to listen to your body. There’s really not a right or wrong way to conduct a cleanse. It’s more of a personal journey that includes all sorts of different ways to navigate it each and every time. The joy is in finding the path that works for you:)

Some basic principles laid out by the folks at Cycle of the Moon Cleanse include ::
-Juicing 3-6 times a day (size depends, drink until you’re full)
      -Drinking lots of water
      -Drinking herbal teas
      -Enemas daily
      -Dry skin brushing daily
      -Yoga and meditation
      -Outdoor walks, exercise
      -Hot epsom salt baths
-Naps and deep sleep at night

      Hope this helps 🙂

I did this as a juice fast last Monday, and the juices were really tasty. I thought it would be boring drinking the same juice all day, but I broke it up with some herbal tea and a cup of honey/lemon/cider vinegar, and a spiced pumpkin seed milk at the end of the day. Adding this recipe to my rotating recipes for juicing. Thank you for sharing!

so we drink this within 24 hours, do we take a break at some point, or is this safe to drink everyday?

When I juice I get my recommended servings of fresh fruits and vegetables. Studies show, only 20 percent of Americans eat five or more daily servings of fruits and vegetables, and a mere 5 percent consume seven servings. When I juice I consistently get between 5 and 9 servings per day. Go Juicing!

    Hi,
the think I dont understand in juice recipies there are almost always both summer produce and winter produce in the same juice. e.g: cucumber and celery. then we have to use non organi produce. Is it okay?

Can you use tumeric powder and ginger root powder instead? And if so how much?

Can you leave the celery out? Because I am allergic to celery.
